CHIANG MAI : THAILAND - The Chiang Mai Gymkhana Club, through its Activity and Tournament Organizing Subcommittee, convened a meeting on September 25, 2026, to finalize plans for a new recurring monthly tournament: the Gymkhana Golf Club Competition Co-chaired by Mr. Payon Yodsuprom, Head of the Thai Subcommittee, and Mr. Bernard Reid, Head of the Foreign Subcommittee, the committee agreed that the tournament will take place on the last Saturday of every month. The inaugural match is set for Saturday, October 31, 2026, featuring a shotgun start at 12:30 PM at the Chiang Mai Gymkhana Golf Course. The competition is open to both club members and general golfers.
Tournament Format and Scoring ; The competition follows a Stroke Play format offered in both 18-hole and 9-hole categories. Initial Handicap System: For the first three matches (October, November, and December 2026), handicaps and scores will be calculated using the System 36 model. Long-term Handicap Tracking: Scores from these initial three rounds will be used to establish official handicaps for all participating players for subsequent Stroke Play competitions.
Categories and Divisions : 18-Hole Division: Features both team and individual competitions. Team Category: Teams of four, decided by the combined total net score of all four members. Individual Category: Divided into three flights based on handicap: Flight A: Handicap 0–10 Flight B: Handicap 11–18 Flight C: Handicap 19–28. For 9-Hole Division: Individual competition only.
Prizes & Awards: 18-Hole Division: A trophy for the winning team; trophies and cash prizes for the winner and runners-up in each individual flight (3 prizes per flight). For 9-Hole Division: Cash prizes for top individual finishers.
Entry Fees and Course Regulations : Registration Fee: 200 THB per golfer (covers meal sets, administrative expenses, and the prize purse). Green Fees & Services: Players pay standard rates for green fees, caddies, and golf carts according to their membership status. Non-members are required to use course caddies.
Formation of the "Gymkhana Golf Club" The subcommittee also approved the establishment of the "Gymkhana Golf Club" , designed to build a community for regular competitors. Every golfer member or general public who registers for a Gymkhana Golf Club Competition match will automatically be enrolled as a club member, with their statistics and personal handicaps officially tracked.
Annual Traditional Tournaments : Regarding the club's major annual events the Christmas and Songkran traditional golf tournaments, the subcommittee noted that planning details will be finalized once the main Executive Committee confirms the exact dates.
